Small Business Celebration Turns Sweet

Over the last two months, Uptown Consortium, Inc. (UCI) has partnered with Kailah Ware, creator, and owner of SunnyBlu Art Studio, an MBE/WBE business, to create video features of Black-owned businesses that call Uptown home. The goal is to spotlight and celebrate unique small businesses to inspire people to support them throughout the year.

To jumpstart the support, UCI worked with SunnyBlu to create a video compilation of unique and diverse Uptown businesses. Check out the video here in case you missed it.

This month, UCI is highlighting The Sweet Place Bakery, who’s on a mission to bake exciting new and trendy handmade treats such as cakes, cupcakes, cookies and pies to more exotic treats such as funnel cakes and churros. Located on Short Vine in Corryville, The Sweet Place caters to many dietary needs (including Vegan and Gluten-free) while incorporating traditional and nontraditional sweets. It’s impossible to describe how delicious and beautiful these treats are. Check out these crafted bakery items for yourself in this featured video here. Visit The Sweet Place Bakery’s website or Facebook page for more information.

The Sweet Place is another example of the unique and diverse Black-owned small businesses located in Uptown. “We are pleased to show-off The Sweet Place’s unique offerings and to inspire people to support the business,” said Brooke Rapp, UCI’s Director of Community Development. “Supporting businesses not only supports the business owner, but it also puts money back into the community.”

Celebrate Small Business Week in Uptown

For more than 50 years, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has celebrated National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners.

According to Rapp, whether you are stepping out for lunch or stepping out for the evening in Uptown, you'll find hometown favorites alongside flavors from around the globe. “Uptown acts as the gateway to Cincinnati, welcoming professors, healthcare professionals, students, and visitors from around the world. It’s no surprise that Uptown also boasts the most diverse mix of culinary choices in the tri-state,” she said.

And The Sweet Place is the latest unique option for residents, visitors, and Uptown employees, to try.

Want to continue celebrating Small Business Week (recognized from May 1 to 7, 2022) in-person? Mortar, Fifth Third Bank, Urban League, and the Avondale community are partnering on Tuesday, May 3 from 11am-3pm. Check out the flyer below for more details.
