Modern Makers and Bogart's Announces Mural Winner

Short Vine was buzzing with activity Jan. 25 for Modern Makers and Bogart's art, music and dance event. Intertwined with the event was a mural design competition where eight entrants vied for the chance to have their artwork painted on a panel inside Bogart's. The competition was steep but Leanne McNamara-Cacchiotti, a senior in the Fine Arts program at DAAP, was unanimously chosen by the panel of judges. McNamara-Cacchiotti's digital sketch of a skeleton wearing headphones fits perfectly with Bogart's culture.

In addition to the competition, last week's event offered attendees a view that was a bit upside down. Break dancing lessons at Bogart’s had participants propped on their heads, hands and elbows; basically any appendage was fair game for balancing. Bogart’s rocked tunes for 60 minutes while the students learned foot work, elbow freezes and head spins.

Sore wrists in tow, dancers headed across the street to 2606 Short Vine where local performing artist Abiyah rapped along to original tracks. Event attendees bobbed up and down to Abiyah’s music while perusing the mural design competition submissions that were hanging on the walls. Here are a few snapshots from the event!
